Start of term update from LAT Academies Director

Dear parent/carer

I hope this communication finds you and your families well.  As we move into this new term, while we recognise there is still a way to go, I am sure like me, you can’t help but feel hopeful that the most challenging of times are past us.

Last term, our full return to school on the 8th March was incredibly successful and it was fantastic to see children back in the classroom, enjoying their learning.  We thank you for all your continued support and understanding as we continue to navigate our way through this next stage and the gradual easing of lockdown restrictions.

Stoke and Allhallows merger – consultation update

On behalf of myself and Mrs Rimmer, we would like to thank you for your contributions to our recent consultation regarding the proposed merger of Stoke Primary Academy and Allhallows Primary Academy.  We are incredibly grateful for those of you who took time to complete the online form with your views and especially for the thoughts and opinions shared in the free comments section.  These were incredibly helpful to us.

Thank you to those of you who also attended one of the parent meetings.  Again, these were incredibly helpful and a positive experience for all those who attended.  Mrs Rimmer and I welcomed the opportunity to hear your views in person and to answer any questions that you raised.

With the listening period now complete, I am pleased to share that 86.7% voted in favour of Option A, with a preference to merge Stoke and Allhallows Primary academies from September 2021.  We have taken time to consider all the views and opinions shared and address these as we move forward.

In terms of what happens next, we will now submit a business case outlining our proposals to merge the academies as set out in Option A.  This will be submitted to the Department for Education for further consideration.  We expect that we will have a final decision by the start of half-term 6 and will of course update parents and carers as soon as we are in a position to do so.

Nursery places

Throughout the consultation, some parents and carers had questions regarding the nursery at Stoke Primary Academy.  I can confirm that if the merger goes ahead, the nursery will move to the Allhallows site.  All children who are registered, or are expecting to start at the nursery next academic year, will be guaranteed a place at the nursery at the Allhallows site.

Future academy name

Finally, it was apparent from the consultation that the majority of parents and carers felt that if a merger was to happen, a new academy name was more desirable than retaining Stoke and Allhallows in the name of the newly-merged academy.  Many of you felt that a new name for the academy would give the school an identity for the future and reflect the coming together of two communities for the benefit of all our children.  Many of you also suggested you would like to be a part of the process in identifying some possible names for the merged academy for our community to choose from.  Mrs Rimmer and I would like to invite you to confirm your interest in being involved in this process by contacting the academy on office@allhallowsprimaryacademy.org.uk.
